One More Song

Tears, dancing shared stories, holding hands
Broken arms, broken hearts
Smiles, singing happy people..."Doin' about half"
Moving to the music, jamming to the sounds of
The bossa nova, jazz and blues
SINCE I FELL FOR YOU'S
The drums, the rhythm soothe the soul
Heals it, THEY CAN FEEL...
IT IS REAL!!!
Live and High, Big Pop's sax blowin' to the sky
Singin' and swingin' watch the ivories fly!
Bass is bumping, shoulders jumping
Forgotten blues
Fogortten loves
Reminds of times
Forgotten for so long
All brought back
With just one song
Why must it end?
Just one more song.....

Inspired by a concert Joy through Music did at  a city park in Cleveland, West 38th & Franklin...St.
Herman's of Alaska provided hot dogs and ice cream.

Reflections...

In the eyes of those I see
Not one of them a bourgeoisie
Down and out, some on the run
Prayed for by their own Jon  Donne
Schizophrenics, parolees
Some afraid to smile it seems
I sing to women of the streets
Missing eyes and crippled feet
And as I sing and watch them eat
Talk and share and keep the beat
Some agitated, some chilled out
Sit together knowledgeable about
Law's of physics,
G-force power
Banded cows and kilometers per hour
Some are always on the run
Dodging anti-aircraft guns
I ask myself as I look down
Watching homeless on the lawn....
Why is it that we will not tend
To those of us who can't transcend?

His dreads adorned with vibrant jewels
On each arm some bangle charms
Made of carnival wins and pop top rings
Each worn proudly and with flair
Looking festive in those things
Every jewel donned bold and bright
Snowy white his dime store shades
Such a striking statement made!
Man decked out in plastic chic
All clad in black lies on the grass
Neon flair extraordinaire pops
Brightening the city park
Lying there to rest
Until the music ends
Elegant festooned man…
Sing me your song.

Housing shortages
Over crowded shelters
Men, women and children on the streets
Elavil not available
Lithium no where to be seen
Ever wonder how you’d feel
Sauntering the streets?
Sick and tired and hungry?

Few of us could endure
Evenings of bitter cold, beatings, abuse…
Senseless, though it is
Times have not changed in this 21st century
Is it is not possible for us to attend to these people in need?
Vital is this issue!!!!
Always and ever constant a problem
Life on the streets…

Thank God for those places like St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church , who have gone out and
collected people from the streets, shelters and abandoned buildings to feed them, offer them
spiritual nourishment and a sense of belonging.
